History

Geschichte

The company Pischinger can now look back on a 160-year tradition and a very convoluted history.

In 1849 the company was founded by Oscar Pischinger.

In 1881 he created the famous and still popular Pischinger original cake, ‘Original Pischinger Torte’.

In 1918 Pischinger was divided within the family in an Austrian and a German company, the German branch existed only until the nineteen-thirties.

The Austrian company ‘Oscar Pischinger’ produced from 1945 for about 20 years the original cake in Wiener Neustadt; then the company was sold to Bensdorp.

In 1949, however, a descendant of the family, Mr. Kurt Pischinger founded an own company and produced the traditional chocolate wafer cakes in Vienna.

In 1980 the company was taken over by the chocolate company ‘Victor Schmidt & Söhne’. Ten years later the company ‘Oscar Pischinger’ was added too! A great reunion but unfortunately the members of the wafer dynasty did not live long enough to see.

After ‘Victor Schmidt & Söhne’ was purchased in 1994 by Nestlé, Stefan Gaudernak, former co-owner and CEO of Victor Schmidt, bought both companies Pischinger.

In 2004 the cakes were divided into handier slices and the slogan ‘…the slice above!’ was invented.

In 2006 the acquisition of Pischinger by the ‘Walter Heindl Ges.m.b.H.’ did not only preserve more than 30 jobs in Vienna - the continuation of an Austrian traditional brand is now save: In future, no one needs to give up his Eckerl!

2012 the companys "Pischinger" and "Heindl" were moved together in a new production area.
